The Thinking Man's Bible: The New Age of Reason

Chapter 1
The Bible vs The Bible

items 100-184 are continued on another page.

Over the millennia, many scholars, clergy, and authors have rationalized, modified, edited, explained away, and otherwise apologized for Biblical passages which were clearly incorrect. The following chapter outlines the most famous of these.

1.1 There were three different creation stories in the Bible. The first and second stories told of creation with different order of events (see Chapter 2). The third story was even less consistent.

Genesis 1:
"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth…And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made…" Gen 1:1-2:2

Genesis 2:
"These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens…And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman…" Gen 2:4-22

John 1:
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not." Jn 1:1-5

1.2 The Bible said that the earth had no physical support.

"…[God] hangeth the earth upon nothing." Job 26:7

The Bible also said that the earth had a foundation.

"…the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s, and he hath set the world upon them." 1Sam 2:8

"Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever." Ps 104:5

1.3 The first creation story said that, in the beginning, the earth was covered by water and that it was made wet enough to support plant life when the dry land was separated from the sea.

"And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters…And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so…the gathering together of the waters called he Seas…And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so." Gen 1:2,6-11

In the second creation story, the earth was dry until a mist rose to water the plants.

"And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground." Gen 2:5,6

1.4 In the first creation story, plants originated from within the earth.

"And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so." Gen 1:11

On the same page, the Bible said that plants were created before they were put into the earth.

"And [God created] every plant of the field before it was in the earth…" Gen 2:5

1.5 In the first creation story, God created the fowl from the water.

"And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the…fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven." Gen 1:20

In the second creation story God created the fowl from the ground.

"And out of the ground the Lord God formed…every fowl of the air…" Gen 2:19

1.6 In the first creation story, God created a man and woman together, in his likeness, using the same (but unstated) process.

"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." Gen 1:27

In the second creation story the man was created from dust, but the woman was created from a human rib.

"And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground…" Gen 2:7

"And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman…" Gen 2:22

Then the first account was repeated.

"…In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; Male and female created he them …" Gen 5:1,2

1.7 The Bible said that all fruit trees were given to mankind to eat.

"And God said, Behold, I have given you…every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat." Gen 1:29

Then the Bible said that man may not eat from all trees.

"But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it…" Gen 2:17

1.8 God created two special trees: the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Why? These trees could only have been useful to humans. God certainly didn’t need them; and, other than the serpent, there was no mention of any intelligent or moral birds, squirrels, insects, or worms who may have eaten thereof.(1) Therefore, God’s order (forbidding Adam & Eve from eating from these trees) and God’s curse (condemning mankind for Adam’s disobedience) contradictd the very creation of these trees.
God evidently didn’t want mankind to gain the knowledge of good and evil, but this would contradict the rest of the Bible which tried to get mankind to do good and avoid evil.
Why was eating from the tree considered an act of evil, if knowledge of evil could only be gained by eating from the tree?
Why did God even create this tree if mankind was forbidden to eat from it? Was this a sting, entrapment, or gross negligence?(2)

"And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil." Gen 2:9

"And the Lord God commanded the man, saying…of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat…" Gen 2:16,17

1.9 The Bible said that mankind was created by God in God’s image.

"And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness…So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." Gen 1:26,27

Why, then, did God fear that mankind would gain the knowledge of good and evil and be like… well… God?

"For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil." Gen 3:5

And if mankind was created in God’s image, then why was God not happy to have anyone likened unto him?

"To whom then will ye liken me…? saith the Holy One" Isa 40:25

And how could mankind have been created in God’s image, if God was invisible?

"…Who is the image of the invisible God…" Col 1:15

1.10 In Genesis, God called the first man and woman Adam.

"Male and female created he them…and called their name Adam…" Gen 5:2

Genesis also said that the first woman was not called Adam.

"Unto the woman [God] said…and unto Adam [God] said…" Gen 3:16,17

"And Adam called his wife’s name Eve…" Gen 3:20

"And Adam knew Eve his wife…" Gen 4:1

"For Adam was first formed, then Eve." 1Tim 2:13

1.11 If Adam was the first human, and if all humans were descended from him, then who were these "daughters of men," and what became of them and their offspring? If they became "men of renown," how come we have no stories or records of them? Where did the giants come from? They were not listed as Adam’s descendants.

"That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives…There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown." Gen 6:2,4

"…The first man Adam …" 1Cor 15:45

1.12 Was the tree of life in the Garden of Eden on earth or in God’s heavenly paradise? The Bible didn’t mention any transplantation.

"…[God] placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life." Gen 3:24

"…the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God." Rev 2:7

1.13 God condemned the serpent to eat dust for tempting Eve.

"…and you [the serpent] will eat dust." Gen 3:14

God later prophesied that serpents would eat dust. Didn’t God’s first curse work?

"…dust shall be the serpent’s meat." Isa 65:25

1.14 God saw that everything he made was good.

"And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." Gen 1:31

God saw that the heavens were not clean, and he didn’t trust his saints.

"Behold, he putteth no trust in his saints; yea, the heavens are not clean in his sight." Job 15:15

1.15 God was satisfied that he had made mankind.

"And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." Gen 1:31

God regretted that he had made mankind.

"And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth…" Gen 6:6

1.16 God wearied and rested.

"And…[God] rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made." Gen 2:2

"…in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed." Ex 31:17

"…I [God] am weary with repenting." Jer 15:6

"…thou hast wearied me [God] with thine iniquities." Isa 43:24

God never got tired or rested.

"Hast thou…not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary?…" Isa 40:28

1.17 God referred to himself as "us" and "our." In the next verse, God was referred to as "he" and "him." Was God singular or plural?(3)

"And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness…So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." Gen 1:26,27

1.18 What was the creator to be called?

- The first creation story always referred to him as "God," Gen 1:1-2:3
- The second creation story always referred to him as "Lord God" Gen 2:4-25

In Genesis, Abraham used the term "The Lord" (Hebrew: Jehovah).

"And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen." Gen 22:14

But Exodus said Abraham didn’t use that term.

"And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the Lord: and I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them." Ex 6:2,3

1.19 Mankind was given dominion over the animals.

"…and God said unto them…have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth." Gen 1:28

But Adam was assigned to the Garden of Eden as a lowly field hand.

"And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it." Gen 2:15

1.20 Where did Cain get his wife? No females other than Eve were mentioned until a hundred years later, and the "daughters of men" weren’t mentioned until even later than that.

"And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch." Gen 4:17

"…Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son [Seth]. After Seth was born, Adam…had other sons and daughters." Gen 5:3-4

"That the sons of God saw the daughters of men…" Gen 6:2,4

1.21 The earth’s waters being gathered into one place contradicted the presence of separate subterranean water for Noah’s flood.

"Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place…" Gen 1:9

"…the fountains of the great deep were broken up…" Gen 7:11

1.22 God told Noah to take two of every sort of animal.

"…every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort…Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort…" Gen 6:19,20

Four verses later, God told Noah to take seven of each clean beast and seven of each fowl of the air.

"Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens…Of fowls of the air by sevens…" Gen 7:2,3

1.23 Genesis said that man’s lifetime would be 120 years.

God: "…his days shall be an hundred and twenty years." Gen 6:3

Noah lived more than 900 years.

"And all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died." Gen 9:29

Eight other Genesis characters also lived beyond 120 years.

- Shem, 600. Gen 11:10,11
- Arphaxad, 438. Gen 11:12,13
- Salah, 433. Gen 11:14,15
- Eber, 464. Gen 11:16,17
- Peleg, 239. Gen 11:18,19
- Reu, 239. Gen 11:20,21
- Serug, 230. Gen 11:22,23
- Nahor, 148. Gen 11:24,25

Psalms said that man’s lifetime was to be 70 to 80 years.

"The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away." Ps 90:10

1.24 God told Noah that every animal was to be food for mankind.

"Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you…" Gen 9:3

God later forbade a number of animals as food for Moses and his chosen people.

"…these shall ye not eat…" Lev 11:4

1.25 God told Noah all animals would fear man.

"And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea…" Gen 9:2

But the Bible also said that lions feared nothing.

"A lion which is strongest among beasts, and turneth not away for any;" Prov 30:30

1.26 The Bible said that Abraham was 135 years old when departed from Haran after his father died.

"And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram…And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran." Gen 11:26,32

The Bible also said that Abraham was 75 years old when he left Haran.

"…Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran." Gen 12:4

"Then came [Abraham] out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and dwelt in Charran: and from thence, when his father was dead, he removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell." Acts 7:4

1.27 The Old Testament said that Abraham had at least two sons when he was tempted by God to sacrifice Isaac.

"And Hagar bare Abram a son: and Abram called his son’s name, which Hagar bare, Ishmael…And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac…" Gen 16:15; 17:19

"And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham…" Gen 22:1

The New Testament said that Abraham had only one son. There is no mention of Ishmael’s death before Isaac’s near-sacrifice.

"By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son." Heb 11:17

1.28 Genesis said that Keturah was Abraham’s wife.

"…Abraham took a wife, and her name was Keturah." Gen 25:1

Chronicles said that Keturah was Abraham’s concubine.

"Now the sons of Keturah, Abraham’s concubine…" 1Cr 1:32

1.29 Abraham was given a legacy from God.

"For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever." Gen 13:15

"And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God." Gen 17:8

The Bible said that Abraham was given none to inherit, and his heirs did not received these promises.

"And he gave him none inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on: yet he promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no child." Acts 7:5

"By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise…These all died in faith, not having received the promises…" Heb 11:9,13

1.30 The Bible said that Abraham gave Beersheba its name.

"…Wherefore [Abraham] called that place Beersheba; because there they sware both of them." Gen 21:29

The Bible also said that Isaac gave Beersheba its name.

"…Isaac’s servants came, and told him…We have found water. And he called it Shebah: therefore the name of the city is Beersheba unto this day." Gen 26:32

1.31 The Bible said that Jacob changed the name of Luz to Bethel on the way to Padanaram.

"Arise, go to Padanaram, to the house of Bethuel…And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first…Then Jacob went on his journey, and came into the land of the people of the east." Gen 28:2,19, 29:1

But Abraham had already known that place by the name Bethel.

" [Abraham] removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east…And he went on his journeys from the south even to Bethel, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Hai;" Gen 12:8, 13:3

1.32 God changed Jacob’s name to Israel at a place he named Bethel.

"And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel…And Jacob called the name of the place where God spake with him, Bethel." Gen 35:10,15

The Bible also said that Jacob’s name was changed at the river Jabbok at a place he called Peniel.

"And he rose up that night…and passed over the ford Jabbok.…And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel…And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel…" Gen 32:22,28,30

1.33 God dwelt in the temple.

"For now have I chosen and sanctified this house, that my name may be there for ever: and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually." 2Cr 7:16

God did not dwell in temples.

"Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet," Acts 7:48

1.34 In Genesis, Salah was the son of Arphaxad.

"And Arphaxad…begat Salah:" Gen 11:12

In Luke, Salah is the grandson of Arphaxad.

"…Sala, Which was the son of Cainan, which was the son of Arphaxad…" Lk 3:35

1.35 God said that he would never send the Israelites back to Egypt.

"…as the Lord hath said unto you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way [to Egypt]." Deut 17:16

But Moses said that God would send the Israelites back to Egypt.

"And the Lord shall bring thee into Egypt again …" Deut 28:68

1.36 The Amelekites evidently suffered a number of holocausts at the hands of the Israelites. Annihilation followed annihilation. First, they were "utterly destroyed" by Saul.

"And Saul smote the Amalekites…and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword."1Sam 15:7,8

They were again totally wiped out by David.

"And David and his men went up, and invaded…the Amalekites…And David smote the land, and left neither man nor woman alive…and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites."1Sam 27:8,9,20

Later still, all but four hundred were killed.

"…when David and his men were come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the south…And David smote them from the twilight even unto the evening of the next day: and there escaped not a man of them, save four hundred young men…"1Sam 30:1,2,17

Then these escapees were killed, and the Amalekites were totally wiped out for the last time.

"And they smote the rest of the Amalekites that were escaped, and dwelt there unto this day." 1Cr 4:43

1.37 The Midianite male population was killed off, and the virgin females were enslaved by the Israelites.

"And they warred against the Midianites…and they slew all the males. And the children of Israel took all the women of Midian captives, and their little ones…Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves." Num 31:7,9,17,18

Somehow, the Midianites reconstituted themselves.

"And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord: and the Lord delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years. And the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel: and because of the Midianites the children of Israel made them the dens which are in the mountains, and caves, and strong holds. And so it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and the children of the east, even they came up against them…and destroyed the increase of the earth…and left no sustenance for Israel, neither sheep, nor ox, nor ass. For they came up with their cattle and their tents, and they came as grasshoppers for multitude; for both they and their camels were without number: and they entered into the land to destroy it." Judg 6:1-5

1.38 The Edomites also survived the elimination of their entire male population.

"For six months did Joab remain there with all Israel, until he had cut off every male in Edom:" 1Kgs 11:16

"Yet Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day." 2Kgs 8:22

1.39 The Bible said that the dead don’t rise.

"He that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more." Job 7:9

The Bible also said that the dead do rise.

"Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise." Isa 26:19

"The trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible." 1Cor 15:52

1.40 The Bible said that the iniquity of fathers would be visited upon three or four generations of their innocent children.

"[God visits] the iniquity of thy fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation." Ex 20:5

"…[God] punishes the children…for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation." Ex 34:7

"The Lord is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation." Num 14:18

"Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers…" Isa 14:21

The Bible also said that no one would be punished for the sins of their fathers.

"The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son." Ezek 18:20

"Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor children…for their fathers: each is to die for his own sin." Deut 24:16

Paul said that, without Christ’s intervention, all of mankind would be punished for Adam’s sin-hundreds of generations, not just four.

"For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive." 1Cor 15:22

Peter and Paul said that mankind would not be punished even for our own sins, since Christ suffered punishment for mankind’s sins.

"…Christ died for our sins…" 1Cor 15:3

"For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust…" 1Pet 3:18

1.41 When a divorce was allowed for uncleanness, the divorced woman would be allowed to remarry another man.

"When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement…she may go and be another man’s wife." Deut 24:1

But the Bible also said that a man would commit adultery if he married a woman after her divorce.

"…whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery." Mt 5:32

1.42 The Bible said that God could not change his mind.

"God is not…a son of man, that he should change his mind." Num 23:19

"And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent." 1Sam 15:29

"I the Lord…will not go back, neither will I spare, neither will I repent…" Ezek 24:14

"For I am the Lord, I change not…" Mal 3:6

"…the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." Jas 1:17

The Bible also said that God changed his mind and even repented.

"And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth…" Gen 6:6
"And the Lord repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people." Ex 32:14

"And the Lord said unto Moses, Depart, and go up hence…unto the land…flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of thee…And he said, My presence shall go with thee…" Ex 33:1,3,14

"For the Lord shall…repent himself for his servants…" Deut 32:36

"For the Lord will judge his people, and he will repent himself concerning his servants." Ps 135:14

"Wherefore the Lord God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the Lord saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed." 1Sam 2:30

"…and the Lord repented that he had made Saul king over Israel." 1Sam 15:35

"…Isaiah…said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live…Thus saith the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee…" 2Kgs 20:1

"…saith the Lord…I am weary with repenting." Jer 15:6

God: "…I repent me of the evil that I have done unto you." Jer 42:10

"The Lord repented for this…" Amos 7:3

"…God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not." Jon 3:10

1.43 The Bible said that God responded to those who asked.

"…those that seek me early shall find me." Prov 8:17

"For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened." Lk 11:10

"If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." Jas 1:5

The Bible also said that God did not respond.

"For it was of the Lord to harden their hearts…that they might have no favour…" Josh 11:20

"They cried, but there was none to save them: even unto the Lord, but he answered them not." Ps 18:41

"Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:" Prov 1:28

"And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear…" Isa 1:15

"O Lord, why hast thou made us to err from thy ways, and hardened our heart from thy fear?…" Isa 63:17

1.44 The Bible said that no one could see God, being invisible, and that no one had seen God.

"No man hath seen God at any time." Jn 1:18

"…the invisible God…" Col 1:15

"Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God…" 1Tim 1:17

"…whom no man hath seen, nor can see…" 1Tim 6:16

But God said that no one could see him and live.

God: "…you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live." Ex 33:20

The Bible also said that many people had seen God, and they lived.

"And the Lord appeared unto him…" Gen 26:2

"…I have seen God face to face." Gen 32:30

"Then went up Moses, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel: and they saw the God of Israel…" Ex 24:9,10

"And the Lord spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend." Ex 33:11

"…thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen." Ex 33:23

"…I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne…" Isa 6:1

"…mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts." Isa 6:5

"…behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand." Amos 7:7

"I saw the Lord standing upon the altar…." Amos 9:1

Jesus: "…he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?" Jn 14:9

1.45 The Bible said that everyone has sinned.

"All have sinned." Rom 3:23

But the Bible also said that Job was sinless.

"[Job was] blameless and upright." Job 1:1,8

1.46 The youngest son of Jehoram was named Jehoahaz.

"Moreover the Lord stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines, and of the Arabians…so that there was never a son left him, save Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons." 2Cr 21:16,17

In the next chapter, the youngest son of Jehoram was named Ahaziah.

"And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his stead…So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned." 2Cr 22:1
